Episode 31
Ep 31: Social Media Influencers Don't Know More Than You: Flipping the Script on Learning
“We're moving away from the hierarchy of 'The teacher knows and the student is learning.' “ - Jenny Leckey
In episode 31, Jenny discusses the importance of tuning into yourself rather than seeking external validation. Jenny explores how people often look outside themselves for answers on social media, especially on platforms like TikTok, and how this is slowing down the healing process.
She emphasizes that true wisdom comes from within- when you learn something new on your healing journey, it's really awakening dormant knowledge and intuition you had all along.
Jenny speaks about the link between people pleasing and abandoning one's true self, explaining how reconnecting with your inner self can lead to personal growth and healing.
Through meditation and self-awareness practices, listeners can begin to recognize those 'aha' moments that resonate with their inner truth that's been there all along. Jenny encourages her audience to reflect on what this episode awakens within them and to share their experiences.

had to hop on now because you never know when inspiration
2
:will strike, so consider this
a voice memo from a friend.
3
:Just as I got in my car this morning,
I was thinking to myself, when am I
4
:going to record another podcast episode?
5
:When is this going to come to me?
6
:Then it's popped into my head.
7
:So here you go.
8
:So many people are reaching
outside of themselves for answers.
9
:If you go on TikTok, there's tons
of people giving their point of
10
:view, their opinion, their hot
take on how to date, how to raise
11
:a family, how to heal yourself, how
to start a spiritual practice, how,
12
:how, how this is how this is how.
13
:And so many people.
14
:People eat that stuff up because
they see glimmers of themselves and
15
:their truth within the comments and
within the information provided in
16
:these videos or even written works.
17
:But there comes a point where we need
to stop looking outside of ourselves.
18
:We need to stop looking at external
forces, external resources.
19
:Yes, that even includes,
ironically, this podcast.
20
:As I'm telling you this information,
I'm saying you don't need to.
21
:If you need this information,
what you really need to do is tune
22
:into yourself and your own inner
knowing and your own self knowledge.
23
:The reason things resonate with
you is because they resonate with
24
:a piece of knowledge that is within
you already and it's waking it up.
25
:There's beliefs that have
been clouding your judgment.
26
:There are things that have been blocking
your way towards the new life that
27
:you want, the The new experiences
you want, the new fill in the blank.
28
:So really when you're learning,
stop looking at it as,
29
:this teacher has all the information,
like a hierarchy, instead, view
30
:it as a journey of remembering.
31
:So anytime you feel any kind of, oh
yeah, oh I totally get what she's
32
:saying, don't look at it as this person
disseminating knowledge to you, look
33
:at it as waking up knowledge that has
been dormant within you all along.
34
:When you flip the script like that,
you're not giving your power away, and
35
:you're also practicing discernment,
because if it doesn't resonate with you,
36
:then it doesn't mean you need to force
yourself into that being your truth,
37
:because some influencer on social media
said it to be so, or some newscaster said
38
:there was some report that made it so.
39
:This doesn't mean you should live
in a world of confirmation bias.
40
:And live in an echo chamber where
all you have are people around
41
:you saying the same exact thing.
42
:No, no, no, no, no.
43
:Of course, you should have different
points of views presented and be
44
:sifting through all different walks of
life and all different perspectives.
45
:Different stories.
46
:What you're really looking for is
that, "ah-hah", wakening feeling.
47
:That's different than confirmation bias.
48
:That's different than ego.
49
:And this is where internal
discernment comes into play.
50
:Your ego is going to say, yeah,
they believe what I believe.
51
:That's right.
52
:They're wrong.
53
:Us versus them.
54
:That's where you get your
confirmation bias, where you
55
:aren't really seeing the truth.
56
:You're just seeing seeing
what your ego wants to see.
57
:Can we put that on a shelf?
58
:That is not what I'm talking about here.
59
:What I'm talking about
is that intuitive hit.
60
:That whoa , yeah, that's a new thought,
that lightning bolt of excitement when
61
:that idea hits you, when something
resonates with you, when you're
62
:moved to tears, when you get chills.
63
:All of a sudden you feel lighter
or you feel like your whole
64
:perspective is shifted and you
see the world in a different way.
65
:That's what I'm talking about.
66
:That's the awakening of things
that have been asleep within you.
67
:Why do you think it's called
going through a great awakening?
68
:You're awakening things that you've put to
sleep, oftentimes by no means of your own,
69
:just by society telling you something as
a child and you're taught to believe this
70
:one thing and not do this other thing.
71
:But it's awakening things that are within
you that maybe you've never met before
72
:or that you knew at a younger age and
you're welcoming back into yourself.
73
:What are these things I'm talking about?
74
:I mean, it could be pieces of knowledge.
75
:So it could be resonating
with an ancient text.
76
:Like for me, the Tao Te Ching
really resonated with me.
77
:That was a huge waking up a, a
giant thing uh, when I read Dr.
78
:Wayne Dyer's Change Your Thoughts, Change
Your Life, which is his verse by verse
79
:analysis of the Tao Te Ching by Lao Tzu.
80
:that could be literally like an
awakening of some inner spiritual
81
:knowledge that resonates within you.
82
:But then it can also be an awakening
to a different perspective.
83
:Meaning, oh, I hadn't
thought about it that way.
84
:Or, Whoa, you just gave that an entire
different meaning to me, or it could be
85
:in your interpersonal communications,
seeing something through someone else's
86
:eyes, as Atticus Finch would say,
climbing in someone's skin and walking
87
:around in it, walking a mile in someone
else's shoes, that sort of thing.
88
:The cool thing is those aha
moments can also be creation.
89
:That can be those creative ideas.
90
:It's like, you know, when you're
brainstorming and you've got that
91
:collective consciousness power going in a
group and all of a sudden you're like, Oh
92
:my God, that's the million dollar idea.
93
:It's interesting to think about it
being something that it was awakened
94
:within you versus receiving something.
95
:This is an idea I'm playing
with, so stick with me here.
96
:If you're still with me, that means
that obviously this must have awakened
97
:something that was within you, right?
98
:It resonated with something within you.
99
:So you've got all these.
100
:There are all these different ways
that, that things that are lying
101
:dormant within you can wake up, right?
102
:so what does that have to do, this is
a people pleaser recovery, podcast.
103
:What in the world does that
have to do with anything?
104
:Well, really people pleasing is a
surface level definition of abandoning
105
:your connection between you, your
human self, and you, your high self.
106
:That's my opinion.
107
:That's what my experience has been.
108
:With that as a working definition,
really, if you abandon yourself, that
109
:means you put something to sleep, right?
110
:It's asleep.
111
:It's dormant.
112
:It's not awake within you.
113
:That connection has gone silent.
114
:You hit the mute button
or you hung up the call.
115
:So when you have these moments,
they're going to reconnect
116
:you with who you really are.
117
:You are a spiritual being
having a human experience.
118
:So it's going to wake up that connection
moment by moment, experience by
119
:experience, moment by aha moment.
120
:Then from there, it's like, have you
ever learned something about someone?
121
:And then like, you can't unknow it or
seen something and you can't unsee it.
122
:Well, usually that's used in a negative
context, but I'm going to use it in a
123
:positive wake up, glow up context here.
124
:Once you have these aha moments.
125
:Once these awakening moments, you can't
unknow them, you can't unsee them.
126
:You might try to shove them down
and ignore it because now it's just
127
:rattled your cage and sometimes
turned your world upside down.
128
:You can't unknow that knowledge
though, no, you can't.
129
:Not with who you are today.
130
:That's not possible.
131
:it's going to force you to integrate
this knowledge into your day to day life.
132
:And I laugh because You're
going to have resistance.
133
:There's going to be parts of you that
are like, no, I don't want to change.
134
:I don't want to grow.
135
:I don't want to, I don't
want to, I don't want to.
136
:I literally went through
this myself the past month.
137
:But once you get over your ego hissy fit,
you will start to add this information
138
:and these new pieces of knowledge and
this awakening, , reacquainting yourself
139
:with parts of your, who you really are.
140
:That will start to influence choices that
you make and how you behave in the world,
141
:how you interact with other people, and
even impact your interests, your hobbies.
142
:An example of that is I used to
be totally into the true crime,
143
:world I loved murder mystery books
and all that since I was a kid.
144
:I still love mysteries, but not
so much the murder, but I was down
145
:that rabbit hole, like everyone
else reading the books, listening
146
:to the podcasts, like my favorite
murder used to love that podcast.
147
:That is what serenaded
me to and from work.
148
:I used to listen to undisclosed and
all these other true crime podcasts.
149
:But once I started listening to these
whispers, the soul connection, awakening
150
:parts of me, I started to naturally repel.
151
:I remember saying to a friend,
I can't believe I can't listen
152
:to these podcasts anymore.
153
:And I truly, genuinely enjoyed the
mystery, the unfolding of these stories
154
:, and hopefully the victories at the end,
and I, Don't resonate anymore because
155
:different parts of me are awake now.
156
:They're not silent anymore.
157
:My body literally rejects the
negativity, the heaviness, the
158
:harshness within those stories.
159
:And part of me was really sad.
160
:I really enjoyed it, but I can't go back.
161
:I can't.
162
:It's one of those, once you
see it, you can't unsee it.
163
:So you might notice those things
happening and little by little
164
:it's gonna change your life.
165
:When you start connecting with who
you really are, you're gonna like
166
:yourself, you're not going to abandon
yourself, meaning you're not going to
167
:people please, and you're going to be
able to handle and tolerate difficult
168
:things, and little by little, you're
going to build up your tolerance to be
169
:able to tolerate the tension, which is
a phrase I use all the time on here,
170
:if you're a long time listener, thank
you, and you know I say this all the
171
:time, you'll be able to tolerate the
tension and be able to stay Speak up for
172
:yourself more, which is a key missing
component when we people please, right?
173
:Using your voice, advocating for yourself.
174
:So how do you begin?
175
:Well, there really is no beginning.
176
:It's just an awareness.
177
:There is no, I need to start by
doing this habit every single day.
178
:Like I need to do this journaling prompt
and then I need to do this fancy routine.
179
:Nah, it just comes with observing.
180
:So if you were going to look for a
routine, I always say you should start
181
:by meditating because meditating teaches
you to be the observer of your thoughts,
182
:to not be of your thoughts, but to
disconnect and observe your thoughts.
183
:If you can observe your thoughts,
then you can start to observe your
184
:body and your mind connection.
185
:And then when you start observing that,
then you're going to be able to notice
186
:when you have those moments, those, Oh
yes, aha moments, those resonance moments.
187
:Then you'll be able to observe
what's been within you all along.
188
:Start to wake up.
189
:There you have it folks.
190
:We've solved all the
problems of the world.
191
:You just got to start listening to
Those little nudges, those little aha
192
:moments, those little wake up moments.
193
:So, what woke up within you
after listening to this episode?
194
:Because remember, we're moving away
from the hierarchy of The teacher knows
195
:and the student is learning, right?
196
:Jenny knows everything
and I'm learning from her.
197
:No, no, no, no.
198
:We're moving away from that paradigm.
199
:We're moving into, what did
this reacquaint you with?
200
:What did this wake you up to?
201
:What did this remind you of?
202
:There's a little kernel within
you that this resonated with.
203
:What was it?
204
:Let me know in the comments,
I'd love to hear from you.
205
:Send me a DM on socials, email me.
206
:All that info is in the show notes.
207
:Please just take time every day to
connect with you and see how it blossoms.
